The theme of World Oceans Day 2020 is “Innovation for a Sustainable Ocean”. As a civil society concerned with marine conservation, we call on the entire society to pay attention to the protection of marine biodiversity and support multi-level marine innovations from institutions to management and technology.

From a perspective of environmental and social risk management in overseas investment, we followed and analyzed new policies and major events of the latter of 2017.

With the launch of “The Belt and Road Initiative”, it is important to figure out how China plays its leadership role to promote green development and low-carbon transformation for fair and effective global climate governance. From the perspective of sustainable development, our publications target folk communication and cooperation agendas on ecological and environmental protection, climate change response, green finance innovation and energy innovation, energy transformation and the exchange and cooperation among civil societies. We also aim to promote discussion and information sharing on national green development along the Belt and Road and to form innovative, independent, high quality and practical researches and suggestions for China to improve its leadership in global green governance.

Over the spring and summer in 2017, the “Belt and Road” Forum for International Cooperation and the AIIB’s Second Annual Meeting were successively held. The Forum outlined a new roadmap for global strategy while the latter focused on sustainable strategies for development finance and governance practices at the operational level.

On March 23, total number of ADB members reached 70. Moreover, China’s reinforced comprehensive management on capital outbound is a significant trend in the spring of 2017.

This issue probes into the investment priorities and governance model of the NDB by focusing on the appointment of management personnel, cooperation partnerships, first batch of projects and operational policies. Discussed in the current issue are also the ways that the NDB achieves responsible investment and promotes sustainable development, by introducing the environmental and social policies of Multilateral Development Banks(MDBs).
