Introduction to the Forum:

Around the world, people are increasingly aware of climate change, which is not only a common environmental problem the international community has to face, but also a political and economic issue on which different nations need to cooperate to reach joint solutions. From the Conference of the Parties (COP) 18 Doha Meeting, we can foresee that international negotiations on climate change will continue to be active in the long-term, and the need for global climate management will grow increasingly urgent. This round of the COP discussed emission reduction and adaption, which aims to deal with climate change, and the capital required for these processes. How exactly climate funds will be allocated and how they will flow has become a tense issue between developed and developing countries, as nations consider both their own political and economic interests.

As the second largest economy and the biggest green-house gas emitting country, China is expected to show its importance in promoting international climate negotiation, and is increasingly being regarded as a potential new engine for the development of the world’s low-carbon economy.  National climate change research has changed from a simple focus on energy consumption and green-house gases emission to investigating a higher level of sustainable national strategies. Climate change is becoming a major consideration during the drafting of fiscal policies, financial activities and investments pursuing the “Going-Out” Strategy, and thus the new term of “Climate finance” is mentioned frequently.

This forum will invite speakers to talk about China’s role in global efforts to combatclimate change through introducing recent internationalnegotiation on Green Climate Fund, domestic scoping of climate finance and the practice of climate-related overseas investment.
