Sep 10, 2012 – “Green Finance Promotes Green Economy Forum” (Agenda --Appendix 1) officially launched at Tianjin one day before the opening of “2012 Summer World Economy Forum” to mark the first-ever civil dialogue between Chinese business leaders, policy makers and Chinese civil societies on the topic of Green finance. Independently organized by two Chinese local NGOs including Greenovation Hub and Yunnan Green Watershed, the forum in Tianjin is an effort to build green economy through the fostering of green finance via collaborations between stakeholders. Around 30 representatives from government, enterprises and civil groups made the speeches, and over one hundred of participants have joined the forum to discuss the good practice, opportunities and challenges faced in promoting banks’ sustainable investments and implementation of “Green Credit Policy”.

During the forum, 18 Chinese local environmental NGOs together launched a “civil society initiative on Green Credit” (Appendix 2 – in Chinese), which aims to foster a better understanding of how cross-collaborations and among civil societies, government and the banking sector can play an influential role in advancing green finance as well as green economy, and encourage Chinese environmental NGOs to form a sound interaction with stakeholders by both cross-cooperation through participatory process for social leaning and monitoring on banking’s lending for more green and transparency.
