Background

According to US climate scientists from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, June 2019 was the Earth’s hottest June ever recorded since 1880, which scientists link with climate change. Extreme weather has brought public awareness to the urgency of addressing the climate crisis to the forefront . As such, swift action is required, particularly with respect to delivering on the commitments made by signatories to the 2015 Paris Agreement.

Key to the successful implementation of the Paris Agreement is article 2.1c, which calls for making finance flows consistent with a pathway towards low greenhouse gas emissions and climate-resilient development. To this end, the role of multi-development banks such as the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is key towards achieving  the transition to a lower carbon future.

At the AIIB’s annual meeting, the urgency of tackling climate change andtheir determination to take action were emphasised. Still, ambition and efforts by all parties, banks, governments, private and public sector must be raised to tackle the climate crisis.

At this event, China-based CSO Greenovation Hub, European think tank E3G, Germany-based CSO Germanwatch and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) will have a focused conversation on the AIIB’s policies and efforts to address climate change, and the role stakeholders can play in this process.

This webinar will be in English only.
